Remember to smell the roses

I generally tend to write about stuff that gets my blood rising. Recently it occurred to me that sometimes I also need to stop and smell the roses. I came across this little gem on suraci’s blog.

Take a few minutes out and enjoy.

  6. Hi DM. Not sure what the first link was. I am not “allowed” to view it from my country of origin – that intrigues me.

I really like Creedance. I studied the Vietnam conflict in depth and the music of the times summed a lot of the western emotion from a visceral point of view. As a westerner with revolutionary tendencies (grin) I could sympathise with both the protest movement and the Vietnamese.

One book that really stood out was from an author called Neil Sheehan. It was the biography of John Paul Vann. He served in Vietnam on many levels from 1962 as a lieutenant colonel until his death there in 1972. His story is synonymous with the futility of the America’s involvement in South East Asia. The book’s name is “A Bright shining Lie”. That says it all.

This one sums some it up for me.

Strange synchronicity yet again. Some thoughts towards a future post parallel these. How many will face the same choice as those young draftees. Support the system or walk away?

  9. The silver spoon brigade never gets too close to the reality of war. This one said it loud and clear.
